Cabin colors and trim

Click on the pictures to view larger images. This is last nights middle of the night musings.

This house is by the Draper temple and is mostly mono-tone with slight darker trim and black window. (Our almond windows will look quite different than the black or red windows on these two houses.)

This house won the Parade of Home best house two years ago. The red window makes this house and the trim is great. I think the vertical pieces are 2" to 3" wide, the horizontal slats are around 4" wide -- slightly bigger than the vertical, anyway. The trim over the garage doors and windows looks closer to 10". Very nice place ... if you have $3 million!

This house is painted basically one color, but depends on the windows, dark wood, stone and copper to give it lots of dimension. We will have to rely on painted trim to give our cabin similar visual impact.

It's a mixture of B&B and shingles. Our lap around the house will visually read similar to these shingles.

I like the red windows (no surprise)....for a cabin I think I would let low maintenance tip the balance in the decorating decision --- fewest amount of paint - least amount of painting! Because - it might look great as soon as you paint it....but 10 years down the road - how much $ and muscle do you want to put into touch up!! ;)
